The Best Indoor Polyball
There are a lot of polyballs out in the market place. There are golf ball, baseball and soft ball size balls. There are foam balls, solid balls and perforated balls. All of these balls have their place in batting practice and even recreational game hitting, but many of these balls are good for outdoor hitting only because they are too hard or too heavy for hitting in a garage or basement.
The Mini Polyball
Generically speaking, there is one ball that is better for indoor hitting in a garage or basement and that is the perforated mini (golf ball size) polyball. The bigger perforated polyballs, i.e. baseball and softball size balls, are too heavy for indoor hitting, unless you are hitting in a gymnasium or something similar in size.
To confuse the matter, there are some mini poly balls that are hard plastic - like a ping pong ball, and are not good for indoor hitting either. Some of these are made for golf practice while others are for hitting with a bat (baseball hitting practice).
The Best Mini Polyballs for Indoor Hitting
The best balls for indoor hitting are the softer, pliable plastic balls like the perforated Wiffle® brand mini polyballs which the Sandlot Slugger pitching machine is designed for, and the Personal Pitcher brand polyballs.

Good for Outdoor Hitting Too
The best all-round ball for hitting is the perforated mini Wiffle® ball. It is perfect for outside hitting too. The mini size is great for hand eye coordination training (used with a game bat or small diameter practice bat), and the perforated and pliable plastic makes for limited flight and softer flight and impact than other balls.
Create a Clear Hitting Lane With Lightweight Netting
You still need to use good judgment when hitting the best indoor balls. Clear out a hitting lane of any breakable items, and create a batting cage with lightweight netting to contain the balls within the hitting cage.
Block and Shield
Shield anything that you cannot clear out of your hitting area with netting, cardboard or other appropriate materials suitable for blocking the Wiffle® ball, this includes glass, windows, light bulbs and fixtures etc… that could break with a direct hit from the mini Wiffle® ball.
Use the genuine Wiffle® mini perforated polyball, with some lightweight netting and the right pitching machine and you can practice hitting in a garage or basement.
