Backyard Wiffle® ball
There are official rules for Wiffle® ball and the various Wiffle® ball leagues, but most who play a backyard version of Wiffle® ball, make up their own rules depending on the number of players, and their preferences.
Backyard Wiffle® ball can be played "one on one" with just a pitcher and hitter. Outs can be anything that doesn't reach the single, double, triple or home run distances, and anything that is caught in the air.
Base running can be optional, depending on the size of the field and the number of players on each team. When there is base running, the base runners are often "ghost" runners who automatically advance the number of bases that a batter's hit results in. One base for a single, two bases for a double etc...
There is the home run derby version of backyard Wiffle® ball too. Where it is all-or-nothing. The pitch count can be three balls for a walk, and two strikes is a strike out, or the same as MLB baseball.
The most basic item for Wiffle® ball is not the bat or the rules, it is - the ball. You can't play Wiffle® ball without the Wiffle® ball. You can pratice hitting with a perforated polyball, play stick ball, or other backyard games with a bat and a ball of sort, but to play Wiffle® ball, you have to play with the Wiffle® ball.
