Batting Cages are EXPENSIVE

Standard Backyard Cages
Let’s face it, batting cages can be VERY EXPENSIVE - costing thousands of dollars.  A baseball or softball pitching machine will run hundreds, if not a thousand dollars or more.

Most batting cages are very permanent, require a lot of maintenance and can be an eye sore (at least to some of the neighbors).to have in the backyard, taking up much of the area in the backyard.

You really can’t use the cage at any time - the weather will determine when you can use it.
You can’t use the cage during the winter or during inclement weather. Players can make huge improvements during the off season, but if you can’t use the cage because it is too cold or it is raining - then you will have to sit it out until the weather is suitable to use it.

Not a great re-sale item either
You will have a hard time selling the cage when it’s useful time to you is over.  Just getting it down is a major chore.  The pieces will most likely end up going to the dump.

Commercial Batting Cages
-are not convenient.  If you are a regular user of such, all the money spent could be better used toward buying your own pitching machine.  Money spent at the commercial cage is simply wasted.` Commercial cages are not convenient to get to and use.  You have to wait in line.  AND you will not get to hit curve balls or sliders - only fastballs.  You have very little control in a commercial location over how you wish to use the pitching machine to improve your hitting.

There is a Better Way

You don’t need to use a full batting cage with a Personal Pitcher Pro pitching machine.

The Rigors of a Full Batting Cage

  • You must anchor the support framing into the ground with cement.

  • It becomes a permanent fixture in the backyard.

  • Makes cutting the grass around and inside the cage a hassle

  • Takes up much of the backyard

  • Can be considered an eye-sore to the neighbors

  • The frame is expensive

  • The netting is expensive

  • The pitching machine is expensive

The Personal Pitcher works with temporary lightweight netting
you may not need to use any netting at all.
Lightweight Batting Cage Netting

made for
Mini Polyball Pitching Machine Use

  • Made with small holes that will contain the mini polyball.

  • Can be cut to desired size with sissors

  • Indoors: can be hung with inexpensive hardware that you can get at the corner hardware store: hooks, ties or even nailed.

  • Outdoors: can be fastened or tied to a post or tree etc…

  • Is not permanent - can be taken down after use.

  • Will not disrupt or take up most of the backyard which you may wish to use for other activities

(Don't use with other types of balls - Wiffle or polyball only)
Portable Use
The machine runs on a 4 hour re-chargeable battery which allows you to easily take it to the schoolyard or vacant lot to practice.

Backyard Use
With smaller backyards, inexpensive, (temporary / retractable), lightweight netting can be strung up as a catch net to contain the batted balls.   In larger yards, you may not even need a net, since the batted balls don’t travel very far.

Indoor Use
Better yet, the mini polyball that the Personal Pitcher throws, can be used indoors, in a basement or heated garage, allowing it to be used during the winter off season, and during inclement weather. (See Garage or Basement Hitting Page)

If you can clear out an area in a basement or garage of about 10’ x 20’ to 25’, then you can partition off that area with inexpensive lightweight netting to contain the batted balls - and you are ready to practice your hitting!

What about the quality of pitches?
After all, aren’t the plastic ball machines intended to be toys for kids? You can’t get serious batting practice from such a machine - can you?

The Personal Pitcher Pro is used by high school aged players, as well as little leaguers. There are professional players who use the Personal Pitcher too.  It is adaptable to players of a wide range of skill levels and ages.

Personal Pitcher Pro Benefits:

Pitch speed
  • Moving the machine closer or farther from the batter will simulate ANY pitch speed from slow to 100 mph or more.

Fastballs, Curves and Sliders
  • Many baseball/softball machines throw only fastballs - the Personal Pitcher Pro throws fastballs, curves and sliders

Pitch Indicator Light
  • With most baseball and softball machines, the hitter is caught “off guard” by the release of the pitch, which occurs without warning.  This throws off the hitters timing and requires a different approach to hitting off a machine than one would use with live pitching.

Automatic ball feeder
  • You don’t need a training partner to feed the balls into the machine.  Simply load the machine with up to 100 balls, turn it on, take your place at the plate and hit.

The mini polyball is tougher to hit than a regulation size ball
  • Get used to hitting a golf ball size polyball, and hitting a regulation baseball or softball will seem - easy.

Portability
  • Use it indoors (in a garage, basement or school gymnasium - for winter team practice etc….). Use it outdoors in the backyard or take it to the schoolyard (or vacant lot).

Cost
  • You can get more batting practice, with as good or better (curves and sliders) pitching, and use it indoors or outdoors - for a fraction of the cost of a full batting cage and baseball / softball pitching machine.

NO NEED FOR A FULL SIZE EXPENSIVE BATTING CAGE
  • Last, but not least important.
