The Mini Polyball Pitching Machines

I really like the mini polyball machines for the advantages they offer. The mini polyball machines will improve a hitter's focus and contact best because they are required to hit a smaller than regulation baseball size ball. You can combine the small ball with a small diameter bat (like the Grobat) for even better training.

Two Wheel Machines

The Personal Pitcher models, Sandlot Slugger and Crusher Curve machines use the proven two wheel pitch delivery system similar to what you see on expensive baseball pitching machines. The Grand Slam uses air from a blower to deliver the pitch.

The quality of the motor and pitch speed is another consideration in choosing a polyball pitching machine. Below are the pitch speeds of some of the machines as per the manufacture's literature.

Personal Pitcher and Personal Pitcher Pro (4 preset speeds) 20,35,45,55 mph.

Crusher Curve adjustable up to 45 mph

Sandlot Slugger 60 mph, 70 mph with the Turbo option

A critical point to know: The reaction time of almost any pitch speed can be duplicated on any on these machines by moving home plate to machine distance closer or farther away. You don't need a machine that throws 80 mph to reproduce the reaction time of a 80 mph pitch.

Curve ball machine or fastball only.

The curve ball machines are the Personal Pitcher Pro, Crusher Curve and Sandlot Slugger. These machines throw fastballs and curve balls (and change ups too if you select a slow speed). The Personal Pitcher Pro also has a preset setting for "sliders" too.The Grand Slam and the Standard Personal Pitcher machines are straight fastball only machines.

Pitch Indicator Light

This is a very valuable feature. The Personal Pitcher models (both) have a light on the machine which gets brighter as the pitch is about to be released. This is a feature that you will not find on most expensive baseball pitching machines. The problem with hitting off of pitching machines has always been the lack of a pitching motion to prepare to swing to. The pitch indicator light prevents the batter from being "caught off guard" by the release of the pitch.

The Sandlot Slugger has it's own Pitch Alert Light (PAL) which lights up before the ball is pitched and turns off as the ball exits the machine.

Tripod Stand

The Personal Pitcher machines and Sandlot Slugger do not automatically come with a tripod stand (tripod stands are available for these models). The Personal Pitcher models use a standard camera stand if needed. These machines can also be set on a table top etc... or one's own camera stand may be used with them. The Crusher Curve comes with a heavy duty tripod stand with the machine. The Grand Slam comes with a stand also.

Remote Control

The Sandlot Slugger is available with a remote control on / off option which will stop / start the ball feeder at the hitter's will. This option is ideal for training solo, particularly if the hitter is in a cage with the machine pitching through a portal opening.
