The Fast ball
For the fastball you will use a standard polyball and simply throw it as you would a regular fast ball with a baseball. You don’t need to and should not try to throw this pitch overly hard. The key to the fast ball “speed” is to get your distance right between pitcher and the batter. Move home plate a little closer to your pitching screen to create less reaction time for the batter, move home plate a little farther from the pitching screen to create more reaction time for the batter.
The Curve ball
You can throw both right handed and left handed curve balls with the half and half polyballs. If you are right handed and you want to throw a right handed curve you want the solid half on the “inside” - the ball will curve toward the solid half of the ball. To throw left handed curves, just reverse the ball. Grip the curve with the index finger on top (the middle finger is on the side lightly supporting the ball) and the thumb on bottom in close to a 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock position with the index finger on the center seam of the polyball. The center seam is where the solid half side of the ball joins up to the perforated side of the ball.
The Change up
For the change up you will also use an standard polyball . The change up is thrown by gripping the ball on the sides only with a “horseshoe” type grip this prevents the pitcher from getting “behind the ball” and preventing any real velocity on the pitch. The horseshoe grip would be similar to the grip one uses when they throw darts, it is on the sides on the ball . The speed of the change up should be about 10% slower than the fast ball. If you grip the ball as descibed above on the sides of the ball rather than behind the ball, you can throw the ball with the same arm speed as you would a fast ball yet the ball will not travel as fast making for a good change up.
Polyball Batting Practice
The most practical way to improve your hitting skill. Serious batting practice - at home. (indoors or outdoors.) Fast balls, curve balls and sliders. Don't waste another coin at a commercial batting cage. Great for all ages and skill levels.
