Baseball Hitting Technique

How to Hit Without a Stride
I like the no stride approach to hitting. I like it because it is very "quiet". There are no pre-swing events that must take place before "pulling the trigger". I think the no stride approach keeps the head still which allow the hitter to see the ball better. I consider the no stride approach a "shorter" swing since it eliminates the pre-swing movement of a stride. I also think "no striders" have less problems with timing.
The no-stride approach is not for everyone. If fact, I think you actually develop more bat speed using a stride. The momentum of the the stride is converted to rotational "torque" in a good swing. But for hitters with ample bat speed, I think no-striding helps in shortening the swing and in improved contact and timing.
How to "no stride" your swing
The way you do the no stride is to essentially "pre-stride". Take a stride as if you were going to hit from a conventional swing with a stride. Where you stride out to - is where you would begin with the no-stride approach i.e. it becomes your batting stance.
Some hitters feel "locked" in the hips when using the no-stride approach. To eliminate the static feel of no striding, some hitters will raise their heel or even the whole foot an inch off the ground and then set it back down. This creates a rocking and a rhythm that helps to prevent the locked hips feeling.
Who can benefit from eliminating the stride?
Eliminating the stride helps the hitter to stay back and let the ball get to him. It reinforces the concept of turning or rotating the torso to swing the bat rather than the sifting of weight. No striding will keep a hitter from lunging after pitches.
Hitters with swing flaws can benefit from eliminating the stride.
The no stride approach will help the little leaguer who is prone to stepping in the bucket and pulling off pitches.
