Using lightweight netting which you can secure to the ceiling with hooks (like those used to hang plants - or something similar), you can partition off a section of the basement for an indoor batting cage.

The value of an indoor batting cage, is that you cn hit indoors during inclement weather, and you can train your hitting during the off season.

The Personal Pitcher Pro

If you want good batting practice, you will need a good pitching machine. The Personal Pitcher Pro throws fastballs, curves and sliders, and the mini golf ball sized Wiffle ball that it pitches, is ideal for indoor hitting and eye/ hand coordination improvement.

Two fabulous features of the Personal Pitcher Pro

The automatic ball feeder allows the hitter to train without a partner to feed the balls. The ball hopper on top of the machine holds 100 balls, and the ball feeder will automatically feed those 100 balls pitch by pitch to the batter.

The pitch indicator light tells the batter that the ball is about to be pitched. This keeps the hitter from being caught off guard by the delivery of the ball - a problem with many other pitching machines.

The Personal Pitcher Pro allows the batter to hit good pitching with the mini polyball which is suitable for an indoor environment along with the lightweight batting cage netting.

The Batting Cage

You will need small hole netting to construct your indoor batting cage. This lightweight netting can be hung in place with hooks like a curtain around the batting area. A typical batting cage area for the Personal Pitcher would be about 25’ x maybe 10’ wide. Many basements will accomidate an area this size for hitting. You will need to clear out of the area anything that might break if struck with a batted ball, or protect these items with a net shield. The only other factor for indoor hitting in a basement is the ceiling height. Generally, an eight foot ceiling height is suitable for most, but younger and shorter hitters may not even need eight feet for bat clearance. The best way to know if your ceiling is high enough is to check it out with the hitter who will be using the Personal Pitcher in the basement, before buying the netting for setting up the cage.

White you cannot hit batting practice indoors with a baseball or softball, most age levels can practice hitting - against good pitching, with a Personal Pitcher Pro and some netting and continue to improve in season and out with your own indoor batting cage.
