Hitting Zone vs 2 Strike Zone
Hitters have different strengths and weaknesses. Some hitters can handle inside pitches well and prefer to pull the ball. Other hitters like to let the ball get deeper and extend their arms a bit more -and hit from alley to alley.

Comparison of the different Zones
- Green: The hitting zone is the smallest. Often it is either "middle in" or "middle out".
- Red Border: The two strike zone is slightly larger than the real strike zone. This is to prevent being called out by the umpire on a close pitch.
The Hitting Zone
With less than two strikes a hitter can narrow his hitting zone to pitches that he can handle well, and let others go. The key here is not to shrink the zone down too much, or the hitter will be constantly going deep in the count by taking too many strikes. 3/4ths of the plate and in or 3/4ths of the plate and out works for many. Others don't handle low pitches well so they may lay off pitches at the knees while handling everything from corner to corner of the plate.
Hit pitches in your zone up until two strikes. If you get to two strikes you will revert to the two strike zone.
The Two Strike Zone
With two strikes you want to widen the strike zone a little to prevent getting called out on border line strikes. Any contact is better than no contact. You have 0% change of getting on with a strike out (apart from a dropped third strike), if you make contact you have some chance (30% if a ground ball, 80% if a line drive etc..... as per NCAA studies). DON'T GET RUNG UP LOOKING with two strikes, at least make some contact - your batting average will be better and you will help your team if you can prevent the (backwards) "K".
Polyball Batting Practice
The most practical way to improve your hitting skill. Serious batting practice - at home. (indoors or outdoors.) Fast balls, curve balls and sliders. Don't waste another coin at a commercial batting cage. Great for all ages and skill levels.
