Inside / Outside Hitting
A hitter can learn to hit to all fields by practicing on a batting tee. Often two tees are used for this (but one will work also). If using two tees, one is place on the outside corner of home plate deeper in the hitting zone (near the back of the plate). The other tee is set up on the inside corner of the plate - out in front of the plate.
In order to use two tees alternately, the inside tee must be set low and the outside tee must be set up high. This keeps the inside tee out of the way when swinging at the outside tee.
The hitter hits alternately off the inside tee, then off the outside tee. This helps the hitter get the feel for pulling the inside pitch and hitting the ball out in front of the plate, and hitting the outside pitch to the opposite field - letting the ball get deep to do so.
Work on your weak areas (locations)
The tee will allow the hitter to work on the areas of the strike zone that gives him a hard time.
If the low strike gives the hitter problems, then set the tee low and hit some inside and some outside.
This type of practice will develop good muscle memory and swing mechanics. With enough reps, the problem areas of the strike zone can be mastered.

The polyball is ideal for tee work, the balls don't travel very far and you can use lightweight netting to hit into.
The Spring Away Tee, can be used with baseball sized polyballs or mini golf ball sized polyballs. The mini polyballs are a real challenge to hit, requiring sharper focus and hand / eye coordination.
Batting Tee Drills
The batting tee is an adjunct to live and pitchng machine hitting. The tee is good for swing practice but doesn't help with timing or hitting a moving pitch. But a tee is good for perfecting the swing mechanics, for learning the strike zone and for working on pitch areas that give the hitter trouble.
