Anticipatory Hitting Practice

Hitting with less than two strikes
part 1
The rules for hitting with less than two strikes are: 1) look for a particular pitch 2) in your hitting zone. The advantage gained by following these rules are that you can "zero in" on a pitch and hit that pitch in an area that you can really handle well. The result of this should be putting good swings on good pitches. You don't check your swing here or swing at anything that you are fooled on - you are letting these pitches go. You are trying to "drill" your pitch with some "malice" in this situation. You can practice hitting with less than two strikes by using the following protocols below. Remember with the methods below that the hitter is swinging to drive the ball - not with a short contact type of swing as he should with two strikes. Hit with two strikes with the short contact swing and "Let it Rip" with less than two strikes.
RIP - RIP - STROKE
I refer to this method of hitting as: "RIP, RIP, STROKE". You let it "Rip"!!! on the first two strikes (i.e. "RIP - RIP") driving the ball with power, and with two strikes and just try to "Stroke" the ball with a short swing trying to make solid contact. There may be times: such as when the pitcher is overpowering (the short stroke works better with this type of pitcher) or, if the pitcher is hard to "read" i.e. very crafty and you don't really know what to look , when you may just want to "Stroke, Stroke, Stroke" i.e. use the short contact stroke on all three strikes. But as a rule most hitters should most of the time "Rip - Rip - Stroke".
Standard "AHA" Hitting Practice
With the standard "AHA" (anticipatory hitting approach) less than two strike batting practice, the batter knows what pitch he is about to receive to hit. The batting practice pitcher will throw the same pitch (usually a fast ball) over and over and the batter should be trying to drive the ball with authority.
A little different twist to this would be to throw all fast balls maybe for the first 1/3 of this batting practice - here the batter is looking for a fast ball and getting it. Then for the next 1/3 of this batting practice, the batter will receive all curves - here the batter is looking for a curve ball and getting it. Finally the next 1/3 of this batting practice , the batter will receive all change ups - here the batter is looking for a change up and getting it. Using this variation the batter practices hitting all pitches instead of just a fast ball. Another variant of this is to simply throw any pitch at anytime but announce the pitch before you throw each so that the batter is anticipating it.
